Butterflies Class

Early Years Teacher: Mrs Charlotte Read-Graves
Learning Support Assistant: Mrs Keyte

This year our Butterflies Class comprises of pupils in Reception and Year One.

Our Term Timetable is both flexible and responsive to the needs and interests of the children. A typical day includes some direct teaching, a phonics session to support reading development, a daily ‘Maths Meeting’ to develop their mathematical skills and knowledge and a focused story and theme with linked activities to engage and develop their love of reading as well as their comprehension skills and provide writing opportunities.

The rest of the day is spent learning through child-initiated activities...'exploring' and developing vital skills to grow independence, problem solving and collaborative play. The adults in the class are there to support each child's progress as they move their learning forward in fun and engaging ways.
Additionally, the children develop and explore their number skills and knowledge through natural play as well as using aspects of the White Rose programme which we use across our school.
We thoroughly enjoy our regular, weekly PE sessions; these support our love of active learning and develop our gross and fine motor skills. We also love spending time climbing, balancing and travelling on our ‘play’ equipment.

The children also take part in daily 'Funky Fingers' sessions, which provide lots of opportunities to develop vital fine motor skills through music.

We use our 'Class Dojo' platform as a form of communication between staff and parents and for day to day updates and messages.

We make good use of our spacious and modern classroom and our fantastic woodland themed outside area. We also benefit from our amazing rural location, enjoying regular walks in the local area.

Our theme this term is Dinosaur Planet

Dinosaurs

Dinosaurs were once living things. They lived on Earth over 200 million years ao before becoming extinct.

Dinosaurs were all different shapes and sizes. Some were huge, such as the Diplodocus, and others were tiny, such as the Compsognathus.
